Continuing the theme of elemental Beady Dolls, I was unsure how to represent the salamander, or fire spirit. Many traditional sources show the salamander as the lizard-like amphibian emerging from flames. However, I wanted to keep the anthropomorphic form and portray the spirit of fire itself. I searched through my collection of fabrics, but wasn't completely happy with any of the options for the dress, so I opted for hand painting flames on the torso in acrylics. I then made a tutu from strips of tulle and lace in fiery colours and cut them into flame shapes.
