Trying out new doll making materials can be a little scary, as you can never be sure what will work and what will turn out to be a terrible mistake that haunts you forever ... okay, well maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but when you get your hopes up about a new material, it is rather frustrating when it doesn't turn out the way you hoped.

For ghost girl Augusta, I wanted to try bamboo stuffing. Sadly it proved to be totally unsuitable, as it tangled and clumped, making it impossible to achieve a good shape, so I reverted to polyester. I did however, find success with a new plant based roving for Augusta's hair. Banana roving has very long, incredibly strong fibres, with a beautiful soft sheen, perfect for an ethereal, ghostly effect.

I see Augusta as the ghost of a young girl, haunting the gardens of an old manor house. Many years ago, she loved to wander the furthest reaches of the gardens, picking wild flowers and berries, until one day she made a terrible mistake and picked the wrong berries. Ever since then, she can sometimes be seen at dusk, when the light is just fading, drifting through the gardens, lost in her own world.
