Gracelyn Hollowveil

Gracelyn Hollowveil

One of the first things that drew me to doll making was ghost dolls. Blending different textures and materials together, you can create something spooky and ethereal, with a dash of creepy cuteness! At ten inches tall, this art doll gave me the opportunity to add a little more detail for a dramatic look.

I painted onto the fabric in inks, acrylics and coloured pencil to create an organic theme that carries through from the face, to the dress, to the arms and down to the boots. Gracelyn's hair was needle felted with ramie fibre, which is a cellulose fibre from a plant in the nettle family. Ramie fibres are long, silky and soft, so it's the ideal material for long, lustrous hair on a larger size art doll. The almost translucent fibres diffuse the light for a ghostly effect.

Gracelyn found a new haunt very quickly, so I'm dying to make more spooky girls soon.
