When I made an anthropomorphic crow doll recently, I gave her button jointed wings in place of arms. This was something a little different to what I'd made before, and it occurred to me that I could use the same method to create miniature crows. This would also give me the perfect opportunity to try out soybean fibre for stuffing. After a few hours planning, designing and re-designing a new template, I was ready to begin sewing, and Lichen, Bluebell and Knapweed were born.
I added some simple hand stitching to the wings and tails, to give the impression of feathers, but I felt like they needed something more. I didn't have a solid plan, but as I began painting, each little corvid took on a life and personality of their own, with cute folk art inspired designs on their chests and backs, and jewel coloured eyes.
