Monica grew up as a sewer rat in a big city. As soon as she was able, she moved into an apartment block, but she always felt like she was unwelcome. She's seen other rats being trapped and poisoned and she dreams of getting out of the city. Her ambition is to be a ship rat and travel the world.
When I started making Monica, I didn't have a fixed idea of how she was going to turn out, or what kind of rat she was going to be, but as often happens, as the pieces came together she started to develop her own personality and tell me her story. Others may meet her and get the sense of a different story, but that's the wonderful thing about art. We all see each piece in a unique way.
