As the wind howls outside, and rain beats against the window, Sabrina Ravenheart sits by the fire and dreams. Incense smoke curls around the single red candle on the mantelpiece. As the golden flame flickers, shadows dance softly on the walls. Sabrina smiles as she tucks a folded scrap of paper into a heart shaped box, and places it carefully on the hearth. This year is sure to bring what she desires most.
At 13 inches, or 33cm tall, Sabrina is the largest doll I've created since I moved in to my tiny narrowboat studio. Due to limited storage space, I've been a little unsure about making larger sized art pieces. However, I found some gorgeous, bronze finish, solid metal beads, which were too large for the dolls I was already making, so that gave me the push I needed to design a new, larger doll template. I already had some decorative bronze finish buttons that were perfect for Sabrina's eyes. I gave her a luxurious burgundy velvet dress and needle felted her hair in jet black viscose fibre. I hope this raven haired Goth girl captures your heart as she has captured mine.
