painting of a ghost in dark blue forest setting

Ghost in the Woods

Acrylics have always felt like an old friend for me. As soon as I start mixing colors, put my brush to the surface and start building light and shadow, shape, form and color, I get into a flow and it's it's like I'm accessing a part of myself that can't be accessed any other way. Painting with acrylics is, in that sense, like therapy for me.

With this piece, I set out to create the form of a ghost girl that looks like something you might see out of the corner of your eye in woodland at dusk, just shimmering between the fluttering leaves. I decided to give her the impression of a face, without to much detail, to create that feeling of her being a 'corner of the eye' phenomenon, like a spooky face you might see in the semi darkness.

This painting for me is like the ghost of an idea. She's not fully formed yet. She's kind of ethereal and free flowing and she's becoming ... something. I'm looking forward to taking this idea further.
