Ghost of the Blue Moon

Ghost of the Blue Moon

If you’ve ever looked up at the full moon on a clear night and felt a deep sense of longing for a distant past you can’t quite remember, this painting is for you.

The stretch of Welsh canal where I live, is well away from the noise and artificial lights of cities and towns. The nights are very dark here and when we get clear skies they are stunning. The full moon casting its soft glow on the trees and the water is one of my favourite things. It makes me feel somehow connected to the wild primal part of my being. I listen for the eerie call of tawny owls, the chirping of frogs and the unearthly cadence of the nightjar, and in that moment, I’m part of nature and this magical land.

This painting is about that feeling of disappearing into the natural world, even if it’s just for a moment, and remembering who we are. It’s feeling both powerful and insignificant at the same time. Being part of everything that came before and everything yet to come, rooted to the earth and connected to the infinate starry sky.
