Isobel felt very familiar to me as I was making her. The techniques I use now are a long way from the techniques I used when I began doll making, but for this doll I decided to go back to my roots in terms of the basic concept.
At her heart, Isobel is a sad, lost little girl, perhaps haunted, or maybe she is the ghost? She represents a part of myself that was always present - pale, lonely, somehow out of place, but full of wonder at the mysteries of the universe - an undiagnosed autistic child in a very confusing world. It took a long time for me to find my place on this strange planet. I hope Isobel finds hers one day.
