As the pale sun creeps over the horizon, and early morning mist clings to the hillside like chiffon, Reya Laureltree steps over shimmering grass and breathes the frost scented air. There is something different about this morning. A hum of activity stirs in the trees, as new growth colours the tips of the branches. Spring is almost here.
With this art doll, I wanted to develop the idea of a larger sized doll a little further, so I took the template I made for a 33cm doll recently and altered it a little. I made a few small changes to the shape of the torso, and adjusted the arm position, so her hands sit naturally in her lap.
I started out with grey and white quilting cotton. However, this time I tea stained it to create a warmer, vintage feel. I wanted to create a luxurious effect with the dress, so I used a variety of textured fabrics, including soft cotton velvet, Guipure lace and metallic brocade. I felt like Reya needed a light, fresh hair colour for the coming spring season, so I used pale green bamboo roving. I think it really suits her!
